The American Art Therapy Association (AATA) states: “Art Therapy is an integrative mental health and human services profession that enriches the lives of individuals, families, and communities through active art-making, creative process, applied psychological theory, and human experience within a psychotherapeutic relationship. Art Therapy, facilitated by a professional art therapist, effectively supports personal and relational treatment goals as well as community concerns. Art Therapy is used to improve cognitive and sensory-motor functions, foster self-esteem and self—awareness, cultivate emotional resilience, promote insight, enhance social skills, reduce and resolve conflicts and distress, and advance societal and ecological change. Art Therapy Credential Board (ATCB) is the only credentialing and certifying body for all registered and board certified art therapists. In order for a person to meet the criteria to be an art therapist, the person must meet the requirements specified on the ATCB website at atcb.org. To make sure you have the most up-to-date information, I recommend you take a look at both the ATCB and AATA websites.
Counseling- focused on treating mental illness and emotional and relational concerns by understanding, resolving, and healing from unresolved pain or trauma from the past while helping the person to live in the present and prepare for the future; diagnosis is given; clinical treatment plan is developed, sessions can billed to insurance, sessions are usually weekly
Coaching- focused on the present and the future, no diagnosis is given, using the person's personal strengths to achieve set goals especially when the person feels stuck, many times coaching is short term, may meet more than once a week depending on the goal(s), meetings are not billed to insurance
Both counseling and coaching help the person overcome challenges, provide accountability, encourage and support further work, and celebrate wins. Both counseling and coaching help the person to make positive changes in their life in a safe and supportive environment. As a therapist and a coach, if a person receiving coaching needs to have counseling services they can continue with me without interruptions. It is the best of both worlds!
During your first in office session you will complete paperwork, share your concerns, discuss resources and create a plan of action. We will discuss the expectations and boundaries of the therapeutic process. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you have about the counseling or coaching process. I give homework for you to complete between sessions and encourage you to have a therapy notebook to keep all your notes in one place. A session usually lasts between 30-55 minutes.
If you are having a virtual session, the same process applies except the paperwork will be emailed to you to complete per the instructions and returned before your session date.
There are many people who are not able to afford insurance or their deductible is very high. I offer counseling packages to help everyone afford therapy services. With the counseling packages, a person could meet both in office and/or virtually for sessions if they would like. If you are wanting to particiapte in thrapy sessions and feel you can't due to a high deductible for mental health services or no insurance, please call me 405-706-7775 and lets develop a service plan for you.
Coretta does accept some insurance and for those with a large deductible or no insurance there is a counseling package to assist with payment. It is the participant’s responsibility to contact their insurance company to determine copays, deductible and eligibility. Copays and deductibles are due the day of service. Coaching services are not billed to insurance. Coretta has several coaching packages to address your needs. Both the counseling and coaching packages do not include the initial or follow-up assessment fees.
